Glaze

The shedding game, dealt in the clay's four glazes: terracotta, celadon, cobalt and mustard. Each glaze has its numbers from nought to nine and its marks, the skip, the reverse and the draw-two; on top of those come the wilds and the wild draw-fours. Seven cards each for you, Ines, Otto and Pia. Match the glaze in play or the mark on top of the pile, or play a wild and name the glaze. The first hand emptied wins the round.

How it plays

Cards that fit lift a little in your hand; tap one to play it. If nothing fits, tap the deck to draw: if the drawn card fits you may play it straight away, otherwise your turn passes. A skip costs the next player a turn, a reverse turns the play around the table, a draw-two hands the next player two cards and their turn, and a wild draw-four hands them four. A wild asks you to name the glaze that comes next.

The round's winner scores the cards left in the other hands: numbers at their face, marks twenty, wilds fifty. Only your own wins count toward the run on the leaderboard, and the run keeps growing round after round until you start a new one.

Tips

Hold a glaze you have plenty of and steer the table toward it with your wilds. Save a draw-two or a skip for the player on your left when they are down to a card or two. Shed the high marks early when they fit; fifty points of wilds left in your hand is a gift to whoever goes out first.
