Grandma's Typewriter

One dark hallway, one old typewriter, and a night that only ends when the typing does. Grandma's Typewriter is a typing game told as a story: you are keeping a promise to type through until dawn, and the house has opinions about that.

What it is

The screen shows the typewriter, its page and the hallway behind it. Words come down the hallway as clay ghosts, and you type each one away before it reaches the desk, with the keys clacking and the carriage zipping home at the end of a line. A ghost that gets through snuffs one of Grandma's three candles; dawn ends the night. Each night the ghosts come quicker and closer together, and between nights there is breakfast, where the story moves on. The game measures your words a minute and your accuracy, and there is a practice mode with its own word lists for learning the keyboard.

How to play

Keep your eyes on the next letter, which is marked, rather than on the ghosts. Take the nearest ghost first. Accuracy matters more than speed early on: a mistake has to be corrected before the word continues. On a phone the game works with the on-screen keyboard, but a real keyboard is far more comfortable.

Controls

Rated T (teen) for a dark house and gentle scares; nothing graphic. Runs without WebGL.
