Solitaire

Klondike, the solitaire everyone knows, dealt from a deck of clay cards onto green baize in the card room. Seven columns, the last card of each face up; a stock to draw from; four foundations to build each suit from the ace to the king. Columns build downward in alternating colours, and a king, or a run headed by one, can take an empty column.

How it plays

Tap a card and then tap the column or foundation it should go to, or drag a card (and the run beneath it) where you want it. Tap a card a second time to send it home to its foundation. Tap the stock to draw; when the stock runs out, tap it again to turn the waste over. Undo takes back as many moves as you like. The Draw button switches the next deal between one card and three at a time: three is the harder game.

The score is the classic one. Ten points for every card that reaches a foundation, five for a card moved from the waste onto a column, five for every card turned face up, and fifteen off for taking a card back out of a foundation. Winning adds a time bonus that is larger the faster you finish, so a quick win is the way onto the leaderboard.

Tips

Turn over face-down cards whenever you can; the cards you cannot see are the ones that beat you. Do not rush every card home: a low card left on a column can take the next card down and keep a run moving. Empty columns are worth more than they look, so wait for a king you actually need before filling one.
